The Online Course & Certification Learning Management System is a centralized platform designed for training institutes and corporate Learning and Development teams to manage course delivery, learner enrollment, assessments, progress tracking, and certification from one place. The platform brings together video and document-based learning, quizzes, discussion forums, corporate training management, live sessions, payments, and certificate verification. Rather than relying on disconnected learning tools or complex AI-driven tutoring systems, it provides a practical and lightweight environment for organizations that need reliable course delivery and verifiable certification.

Challenges
The development team faced several operational and technical challenges while building the platform:
- Delivering large volumes of video and course content to multiple learners simultaneously without placing unnecessary load on the application server.
- Reliably tracking individual learner progress and video resume positions without generating excessive database writes from continuous playback updates.
- Ensuring quiz submissions and auto-grading remained accurate when multiple attempts were submitted concurrently.
- Maintaining a reliable and auditable certificate issuance process so that completed learners could receive verifiable credentials without compromising grade or certificate integrity.
- Supporting different user roles and workflows for Administrators, Instructors, Students, and Corporate Managers within the same platform.
Our Approach
To address these challenges, the platform was built around CDN-based content delivery, transactional assessment processing, queued background jobs, and role-based access control.
- Course videos and learning materials are stored in S3-compatible object storage and delivered through CDN-backed signed URLs, keeping large media files away from the application server and allowing learners to access content efficiently.
- Learner resume positions are updated through debounced client-side requests and batched PostgreSQL upserts, reducing unnecessary database writes while maintaining accurate module-level progress.
- Quiz submissions are processed within PostgreSQL transactions with row-level locking on enrollment records, ensuring that grading remains atomic and consistent even when submissions occur concurrently.
- Certificate generation is triggered through BullMQ only after a passing grade has been successfully committed, while certificates are stored in an insert-only table to maintain an auditable record of issuance.
- Role-based middleware separates access for Admins, Instructors, Students, and Corporate Managers, ensuring that each user can access the courses, assessments, reporting, and management functions relevant to their responsibilities.

Instructors can create and organize courses using video, PDF, and document content blocks, configure quizzes and question banks, schedule module releases, and monitor learner performance. Administrators can manage users, courses, payments, certifications, and platform activity through centralized controls.
For corporate training teams, managers can bulk-enroll employees, monitor team completion rates, track compliance deadlines, and review assessment performance. The platform also supports live session scheduling through Zoom or Google Meet, while integrated payment workflows allow learners to purchase individual courses or subscription plans. Once a learner successfully completes the required course and assessment criteria, the system generates a certificate containing a unique certificate ID and QR code. The certificate can then be verified through a public verification page, providing a reliable way for employers or other third parties to confirm its authenticity.
